Readers may know I launched a sister project to this newsletter in July: World Astrology Report, a YouTube channel focused on mundane astrology. At the risk of offending subscribers hoping for an article with some actual astrological content, I’m publishing this short piece introducing the channel to my Substack readers, and soliciting feedback from those of you who’ve seen it.
The concept of WAR is simple: each episode is a report on a different topic in mundane astrology. Think “astrological news report” and you’re getting close to what I’m aiming for, even if I’m not quite there yet. There are plenty of astrologers making excellent astrological video content, but I haven’t seen many attempts to really bring it to life visually. That’s the ultimate aim of WAR, even though I’m still learning the skills needed to achieve that successfully.
I’ve released four videos so far. The first, Sorry Skeptics: The Future Is Astrological, discussed why I think astrology is only getting bigger in the future (while poking a bit of fun of Neil deGrasse Tyson for good measure):
The second, The Earth Shakes: The Coming Mars-Uranus-Rahu Conjunction in Taurus, covered the Mars-Uranus-Rahu conjunction in Taurus earlier this year:
The third, The Age Of Air Will Change Everything, was a deep dive into the Age of Air, something I’ve discussed many times in this newsletter:
And the latest, Will The US And China Go To War?, delved into the possibility of conflict between the United States and China:
Making these videos has been a learning process for me in every sense, and a humbling one. I’m not an experienced filmmaker or video editor, even if I have been producing content for a long time. And I’m not so used to being in front of the camera or “putting myself out there” so directly.
That’s probably why you’ll notice differences in style and tone across the four videos I’ve put out so far. I’m experimenting with the format and learning with every clip I make. I expect the channel will continue to evolve as I figure out what makes YouTube tick.
On a personal level, it’s surreal finding myself running a channel named “WAR” at this stage in my life. Before devoting myself to astrology, I spent 10 years working for an international humanitarian organisation in conflict zones. I didn’t choose the name “World Astrology Report” for its initials, it just came out that way.
It even seems the content itself is drifting increasingly into martial territory: I’m talking a lot about war, but I guess that shouldn’t be surprising given the current state of the world. Anyway, I thought my “war” days were behind me. But it seems Mars—which I have natally in its joy in the 6th house—had other ideas.
While we’re here, I’d like to use this forum to solicit some feedback from those of you who have seen the channel: how could it be improved? What subjects would you like to see covered? What length of video do you feel works best? And would you like to see other kinds of episode? I’m considering interviews with other mundane astrologers, as well as regular “news bulletins” examining breaking news through the lens of astrology.
That’s all for now. Let me know what you think!
The Art of WAR
I think adding interviews with mundane astrologers and doing "news bulletins" are a great idea! I'd love that content personally.
And I'm assuming those are quicker to make, and can "fill in the gaps" while you do research - I've heard YouTube favors creators who post more often.
